Now, Emmett, we’re no experts in what books the kids are into these days — we can barely wrap our minds around TikTok — but if there’s one book that you should read little man, it’s the Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. It’s about a stuffed rabbit who becomes real through the love of his boy (a little boy much like you!) and shows that the act of loving something is an act of creation and light.
Your parents, Emmett, probably feel like the little boy in that book. While they were waiting for you, they built a whole life for you to come into. They made their house, they decorated it, they worked on their careers and they waited and waited, knowing that you would come into their lives when you were ready. And you did, Emmett! You came at the perfect time. Their house is built and ready for its newest member.
But what does that have to do with the Velveteen Rabbit? Well, Emmett, as you grow up, we want you to remember that you can make anything happen through love and support. That’s how you came into this world and that should be the path that guides you as you navigate the path ahead. Because, no matter where you go, as long as you’re led by love, you’ll be going the right way. We can’t wait to see where that road takes you. Hopefully you come by and visit us a time or two we so can see how it’s hanging and throw a little party (the cake? Red velvet, of course, like the rabbit…). But we know that no matter where you go, you’ll be heading in the right direction. Can’t wait to see what the world looks like with you in it, Emmett.
